Hi, i've spent the last hour or so browsing the net trying to find out how i can nstall my AutoCAD 2000 AD onto my computer running windows vista ultimate x64. So far i've made no progress whatsoever. Can anybody shed some light? Basically i run the setup program which asks if i want to instal autocad or migration assistance as it did on my other past computers. When i click Autocad it says: 'Unsupported 16-Bit Application The program or feature '??
G: setup.exe' cannot start or run due to incompatability with 64-bit versions of windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit windows compatible version is available.' I really need to use this program so any help would be awesome. Autodesk recommends AutoCad 2008/2009 for Vista 32/64 bit. I doubt they will ever revise Acad2000.

First, a basic fact: 64-bit Vista is unable to run 16-bit software. Completely unable. Will not work, period. It's just how Microsoft designed the system. 32-bit Vista can still handle old 16-bit executables, however. Your error message seems to be indicating that the Autocad installer is a 16-bit installer. Since Vista x64 cannot handle 16-bit programs.
It cannot run the installer, even if the actual application turns out to be 32-bit. The only chance would be if you could actually copy the program directory from another machine - on older software that has been known to work, though I would cross my fingers for that one. Otherwise, Autodesk would have to port the install script to a 32bit or 64bit installer. Not gonna happen.
Keeping a few legacy customers happy isn't worth that kind of resource investment - not when they can simply tell you to upgrade to the latest version and then get some more money from you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But your chances are slim to none. Best option for you is to get AutoCAD 2008 or newer version. It has a x64bit installer but you need to install x32bit also on a x32bit OS (different computer is ok even if it is not networked) then after you install it on their respective OS you need to go to the portable license utility of autocad on the x64 and make a note of the computer name and computer i.d. (exact manner as it appears) after that, go to where you installed autocad x32 bit then. Portable license utility also and hit export license then add then type the name and id of the computer where you installed x64 bit after you save it somewhere hit ok and close.
